Please support our Sanctuary Fundraiser!
Sometimes, an animal will be received into the Eleventh Hour community who, even after multiple attempts at training, socializing, and careful placements, we come to realize will not be able to adapt to living in a home environment. In cases like these, the idea of the dog spending the rest of its life in our kennel space is heartbreaking. While we can guarantee it would be well taken care of by EHR staff and volunteers, we made a promise to that dog when we rescued it to find a better life; a life it deserves.
We strongly believe that with some dogs, it is a much better use of time and resources to allow it to live out its final days at a sanctuay location specifically tailored for those that have a hard time adjusting to a human world. In some locations, the resident dogs live in groups, almost packs, with 24-hour access to large play yards and temperature controlled buildings. Here they have limited human interactions, so can run free and just be dogs. In other situations, the dog is kept in private quarters, given plenty of exercise and enrichment while interacting with only select humans. The goal is to place the dog in the situation best suited to live out their remaining days.
Over the years, Eleventh Hour Rescue has been fortunate enough to be ablr to send a few handfuls of animals to permanent sanctuary facilities to live out their days, thanks to the generous sponsorship of donors. They are now thriving and living happy, healthy lives at the location that best fits their needs and behaviors. We would really love to give other rescue dogs that same chance!
The average cost of putting an animal into a sanctuary program is between $5-10k per dog. It is important though, to remember that quality of care will be continued though the dogs's end of life. For a non-profit 501(c)3 like we are, this is simply not possible without the help of compassionate donors. PLEASE PLEASE consider helping us build a reserve of funds so we can be better prepared if /when another dog is in need, allowing us to fullfill the promise made.
